Trash and Recycling

Ellsworth Village has a new trash hauler: B-P Trucking.

Trash pick up occurs on Wednesdays – sometimes quite early. Have your barrels on the street well before 7:00 AM. Most of us place them out Tuesday night.

Black barrels for trash and blue barrels for recycling.  A separate truck will arrive to collect single stream recycling every other week.

Linear Property Management will notify residents if there is to be a delay in pickup due to holidays, weather or other difficulties.

The contractor only collects material that is placed in the provided wheeled barrels. Over stuffed barrels may not empty completely. Be sure the barrels are placed with the handles toward the building. Additional material may be brought to the Acton Transfer Station. Refer to the Acton Town website for details.

One of the most common misconceptions is that plastic bags, plastic film, styrofoam and light bulbs may be recycled in our bins. These items create significant difficulties when mixed with allowed materials. Plastic bags can ruin a whole truck load of recycled materials. Plastic bags and plastic film may be recycled at local super markets such as Donelans. Clean styrofoam is accepted at the Acton Transfer Station on specific days.

What Is Single-Stream Recycling? What Items Are Accepted?

Also referred to as mixed recycling, single-stream recycling makes up most of Massachusetts’ recycling efforts today because of its cost efficiency and convenience. In this program, many types of recyclable materials are collected together in a single recycling cart for processing at a nearby material recovery facility. Our state’s single-stream recycling program accepts the following non-hazardous items:

  • Cardboard (flattened)
  • Newspapers, magazines, and inserts
  • Mail, junk mail, and envelopes
  • Boxboard and paper cartons (cereal boxes, etc.)
  • Office papers and file folders
  • Plastic containers (#1-#7) and large, rigid plastics
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Metal and tin (aluminum and metal cans)

Unacceptable items include plastic bags, soiled paper or cardboard products, plastics without a number, Styrofoam cups or packing materials, light bulbs, soiled tin cans, juice boxes or pouches, ceramic dishes or dinnerware, windowpane or windshield glass, mirrors, and sheet glass.
